DIY Sheep Barn ft. HomeRight

Our Olde English "Babydoll" Southdown sheep are finally here!! We spent so many weekends preparing for them and I wanted to summarize all the details of our sheep barn for you! We love all things DIY and knew we needed a shelter to protect the sheep from rain, sleet, snow and wind. Rather than starting from scratch, we opted to use our existing mini-barn. It has seen so many changes since we bought our home!  Last year, we gave the mini-barn a makeover with basic repairs and paint.

For the original mini-barn makeover details, click here. We used our HomeRight finishing sprayer for that project and ended up using it again to prepare for our sheep. Here's a current before image of what we were starting with this year.

BEFORE

The mini-barn provides a lot of storage, but we needed something to provide shade and safety for the sheep. We decided to add-on a lean to. My husband started with building the frame.

Next, he hand cut and started securing the metal to the roof. I can't even tell you how many hours went into these two steps!

Once the metal roof was secure, we added metal to the north side of the structure to enclose and protect the sheep. As you can see, the metal needed to be painted. 

We partnered with HomeRight on this project to paint the metal and their finish-max super sprayer made ALL the difference! I started by cleaning the metal with soap and water and once dry I grabbed my sprayer and got to work. 

We have used our sprayer for SO many projects...mini-barn makeover, pergola makeover, painting closets, painting our kitchen cabinets and more! I can honestly say - this sprayer does not disappoint. With each project, we get a smooth, beautiful finish. This was my first time painting metal, but it applied great.

AFTER 

By painting the metal, I feel like it helped pull the entire design together and look more like an extension of the barn.

To allow the sheep to get the maximum amount of air for warm summer months, we decided to leave the other areas of the lean to open. Since the wood was exposed, we used our finish-max super sprayer again to stain/seal the wood. 

TIP: Be sure to change out the spray tip to customize the paint/stain flow for all of your projects. 

This made the staining process so quick and simple! I love the rustic look!
