Are you looking for an easy game day appetizer?? My husband came up with the recipe for this year's Super Bowl and is calling it "The Elephant Egg."
HOW TO MAKE THIS ULTIMATE GAME DAY APPETIZER
Ingredients needed:
- 3lb bacon
- 2lb sausage (your choice)
- 2 8oz cream cheese
- 2 large jalapeños
- Cajun seasoning
- Fresh rosemary
To make this appetizer, grab your favorite knife (we love our Cangshan S1 series). Pre-heat oven or grill to approximately 250 degrees.
Layer an area approximately 1ft long with bacon. Make sure to overlap (shingle) the pieces. Take 1lb sausage and form a trench around 1/3 as wide as the bacon and around 3" from either end. Season cream cheese with Cajun seasoning and scoop into the trench. Slice the cored jalapeños and add to top.
Our new favorite knives are from Cangshan! They are made with forged German steel and we love how they complement our French Farmhouse style.
Cover with more sausage. Pull up bacon sides, and add more to the back and sides.
Lattice the pieces if possible as it helps them stay together. Top with fresh rosemary and tie the "Elephant Egg" with butcher twine.
Here was the finished product ready to be smoked.
Our Traeger Pro adds the perfect hardwood flavor!
Smoke at 250 degrees for around 5 hours or when internal temperature reaches 190 degrees.
This appetizer is sure to be a crowd pleaser!!
I hope you enjoy this easy appetizer! If you try our "Elephant Egg" recipe, be sure to tag us at @maisondemings.
As always, thank you for following along!
