Are you looking for ways to increase your curb appeal? Wood mulch is an excellent way to dress up your landscape while improving your yard. This summer, we are excited to partner with Rural King to makeover the exterior of our home!

A few years ago we added stone edging, but our mulch needed replenished and it was time for new weed barrier fabric as well. We love mulch as the natural wood composition controls weed growth, has excellent moisture retention properties and keeps a more even ground temperature to protect tender plants and roots.

We went ahead and purchased an entire pallet from Rural King which made loading a breeze for both the employees and my husband :)

We went with their brown colored mulch which is currently on sale!

BEFORE

Overgrown landscaping in need of some serious weeding and care!

When weeding, I love using a bucket to quickly put the weeds in so that we can dispose of them later. After pulling all the weeds, we laid new weed barrier fabric before adding the mulch. My husband and I worked together when it was time for the mulch - he unloaded and dumped it in sections and I went back and spread it evenly.

The process went quickly and within an hour we completely transformed our front landscaping! You've got to love a good before and after!

BEFORE & AFTER

Before these areas had rock, but were overgrown with weeds. It had been years since weed barrier had been laid. You couldn't even see many of our beautiful perennials before.

BEFORE & AFTER

Now everything looks crisp and well maintained! I love how full everything is this time of year! There are so many benefits of utilizing mulch in landscaping - not only does it help retain moisture in the soil longer, it helps prevent evaporation by shielding the soil from the sun. It also reduces water run-off during rain or watering. Another major benefit is that it adds organic matter to the soil which makes your garden healthier and more resistant to pest and disease.

I hope this gives you some inspiration for tackling your landscaping needs! There can be some amazing pay-offs, like increasing the value of your home; according to the National Association of Realtors, houses with high curb appeal usually sell for an average of 7% more than similar homes without the same landscaping.

Thanks again to Rural King for partnering with us on this landscaping project!
