Hi friends and welcome to the Maison de Mings blog!
I'm Amy, the owner and designer of Maison de Mings.
Maison is French for house, so the name of our business is literally the House of Mings. . . and that name is both a simple announcement of who we are, but most importantly, an announcement to friends new and old alike that our little shop is a warm welcome into our home and into our lives!
Like a lot of entrepreneurial stories one reads, my road to starting a small business was a long and winding one - inspired by both my professional background and love for travel. I grew up in a wonderful small town in Southern Illinois, and after studying accounting in college, competing on the speech team, and honing as broad an experience as I could, I began my professional career in public accounting. I enjoyed all aspects of accounting, but found my niche working with business owners and became a CVA (Certified Valuation Analyst).
I've always been passionate about traveling and learning about other cultures, but there is one special place that has inspired me the most - Provence. After spending time there for my wedding and honeymoon, I developed a deep and abiding passion for the area, and France generally. Subsequent trips to the country, have only grown that passion.
When our first daughter was born, I was fortunate to leave my career in public accounting become a stay-at-home-mom. A short 14 months later, we welcomed our second daughter. Once we were out of the haze of having both a newborn and a toddler, I decided to go after my passions and pursue my dream of starting a small business in the spring of last year.
Looking back, my professional experiences helped me develop an entrepreneurial mindset and cultivate the skills necessary to create Maison de Mings. I'm so proud of how the business has evolved. We have many partnerships and our products can be found in several businesses throughout the region. We also have strong relationships with our customers.
What started as offering a collection of handmade items has expanded into participating in vintage markets, becoming a Jeanne d'Arc Living retailer of vintage paint and accessories, and offering Chalk Paint Workshops regionally.
I feel incredibly blessed to be able to do what I love, while also being home with my girls.
I decided to start blogging as a way to share more of my heart behind Maison de Mings. When this business was created, I truly wanted it to be a lifestyle brand. Here I'll share product updates, home decor styling ideas and a peek in to our lives.
I love Jesus, my family, beautiful spaces, pretty pies, lavender, vintage markets, chalk paint, coffee, Rae Dunn pottery, and all things French.
You can always find me posting products and pictures from our home on Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest.
Thanks for reading sweet friend! I'm so glad you're here!
