Have you ever considered tackling a renovation project, but found it hard to visualize how it will turn out? I’m a very visual person and before I start designing a room, I like to create a design board. It is such a great tool to help pull any renovation project together. This tool is not just for designers either - there are many online resources to help create your design board. I like to use PicMonkey. It is an easy, fast and customizable way to pull my designs together.
For our kitchen renovation, we knew we wanted new quartz countertops, painted cabinets, a farmhouse sink, marble backsplash, custom island and a vintage chandelier. Below is the design board I put together so we could see the design start to come to life before the renovations even started.
One of the things I love most about using a design board is that you have a plan in place BEFORE you start buying anything for the project. I feel like this step helped save us a lot of time and money - not to mention less stress!
Even with our design board, I still was very mindful of our choices though and ordered in samples of everything prior to beginning our renovations.
I even made a special trip to Tennessee (we live in Southern Illinois) to view the Silestone Quartz in Desert Silver we were planning to go with before we finalized our purchase.
Below is another sample we ordered prior to scheduling our install. Shown is our Carrara 3 in. x 6 in. Honed Marble Wall Tile from Jeffrey Court. I ordered several samples so I could see it in person and start to visualize how it would look with our flooring, countertops and kitchen accessories.
Our design board not only helped us stay on track, but during the long renovation process, it also served as a daily reminder of our kitchen renovation goals. Next week, I will be sharing more about our renovation process and what projects we tackled first. As always, thank you for stopping by the blog and following along on our renovation journey.

Amy
