Handmade Moroccan Tile

This post is sponsored by Zia Tile. All opinions are 100% my own. Thank you for supporting the brands we truly love!

Do you remember where we started with this space? We have tackled it slowly one project at a time and it is almost complete. We were so excited to partner with Zia Tile to add a handmade Moroccan tile backsplash! The texture is beautiful and each tile is a piece of art in its own right.

As a reminder, here was the original mood board for our space. With any DIY project, we always recommend creating a mood board to help visualize how the space will look before you start your project! Trust us, it will save you time and money! To make mood boards, try an app like Canva.

MOOD BOARD

We have altered a few things from this original mood board (like furniture due to COVID-19 delays), but overall, we have worked within the initial design concept.

For this project, we selected Unglazed Natural Terracotta Zellige from Zia Tile! We love how the unadulterated terra-cotta, unglazed natural zellige is timeless and authentic.

Straight from the Moroccan desert, unglazed zellige tiles are recognizable for their organic appearance.

The tiles are handmade and manufactured by artisans with generations of experience. For zellige, once the clay is found and softened, a skilled craftsmen flattens the clay into square shapes by hand. The perfect imperfection is what sets Moroccan zellige apart from every other tile on Earth.

We love adding home features that tell a story and the handmade zellige tiles have a beautiful one to tell! Did you happen to notice how we also incorporated a French tile into the design?

We found four of these vintage cicada tiles at Antiques on Holiday when we were on vacation in April. The tiles are handmade and were found in Southern Provence. Did you know that cicada's are a Provençal symbol of good fortune and happiness? For the full history of La Cigale, click here

We may never know the story of how/when these cicada antique tiles were made, but when we saw them, we knew they were special! To our surprise, they were the exact same size as the zellige tiles handmade in Morocco! It was truly a match made in Heaven.

This room has seen quite the transformation and now serves as my husband's office and music room. We painted, added copper ceiling tiles, switched out the lighting, and built new wood countertops! The zellige tile couldn't be more perfect.

We have one final project (which we will be sharing very soon), but for now we are enjoying this space!

  • A general rule is to aim to burn 400 to 500 calories, five days a week during your workouts. Remember, the number of calories you burn in a workout depends on your weight, sex, age and many other factors, but this number is a good starting place.

  • Many eye exercises are touted as ways to naturally improve eyesight and overcome nearsightedness. The Bates Method suggests palming, movement and visualization techniques to reshape the eyeball and improve vision. Yan Bao Jian Cao suggests massage and acupressure as ways to relieve strain and eye problems. However, none of these exercises are verified to have more than anecdotal or placebo results. While vision therapy is a serious area of optometry that addresses problems with alignment, tracking and strain, there’s no sound evidence that vision exercises can affect clarity.

  • Protein is an essential part of a healthy diet, however having protein at all meal times, accelerates weight loss. It leaves you feeling full for longer and helps lower your total body fat. It also prevents the urge to tuck into something fattening or fried, if you eat in moderation, you would also be able to lose weight faster. Here are some suggestions of protein-rich swaps you can make to your daily diet.

  • It can go away on its own but is often chronic. Sometimes it is unrelenting and severe, and sometimes it comes and goes. It often is the result of nerve damage or a malfunctioning nervous system. The impact of nerve damage is a change in nerve function both at the site of the injury and areas around it.
