When we were renovating our small laundry area, I decided to remove the existing cabinets. I hated to lose the cabinet storage, but it really opened up the laundry area.
Several of you suggested adding open shelving. I LOVED this idea so I began planning how I wanted to incorporate this design. Have you seen the corbels at Hobby Lobby? They were the perfect color to add some dimension to our laundry room. I purchased mine when they were half off - I couldn't pass up $14.99 for a pair!
As I began planning where I wanted the open shelving, I used painters tape to help me visualize my design. (TIP: I always recommend using tape to assist with any wall design or DIY shelving project).
I decided to pair the corbels with natural wood. For reference, I found the 6ft 1x4 at The Home Depot and my husband cut it in half for me. Prior to stain and styling, I made sure my shelves were level.
Don't they just pop against the white wood plank walls?
I love how the open shelving added interest to the space without making it feel small. As a note, if you try this project at home, be careful how much weight you put on the corbels. I learned the hard way sometimes less is more.
Here's another view of our newly renovated laundry space. In case you are wondering, we do have a large closet as shown here to the right so I store all my laundry supplies there.
As always thank you for following along on our renovation journey and supporting this dream of mine!

Amy
