Bathroom Makeover

Happy Tuesday friends! I did a poll in Instagram stories recently and it was unanimous - this week you asked to see our bathroom makeover. 

Many of you know, but we recently purchased a home and while it had good bones, it was a bit outdated and didn't fit our style. This is our first home (we've moved all over) and we wanted to invest in renovations early so it felt like ours from the beginning. 

Here's a raw picture of the bathroom "before" renovations. Everything was dark brown... even the ceiling. 

Thanks to Brooke over at Nesting With Grace, before we started renovations, I created this design board as a way to capture my ideas for the space. My husband and I both are very visual people, so this helped us make our design selections quickly and move forward on the project. 

Within the first week of possession, my husband took out the bathroom flooring and we began to prepare for paint. See below.

The next step was to prime and paint. The walls were so dark we ended up doing two coats of tinted primer before we painted the walls Intense White by Benjamin Moore. The ceiling, molding and trim was all painted Simply White by Benjamin Moore. 

Here you can see what a drastic difference just paint made. The room already felt so much lighter and brighter! 

My next project was chalk painting the vanity. We are a Jeanne d'Arc Living stockist and I selected French Grey for the project. A sample can which retails for $12 was all I needed. I sealed the chalk paint with Minwax Polycrylic in Matte (this can be found at any major home improvement store). 

The chalk paint made quite a transformation on the vanity. I love DIYs like these - cheap, easy and major impact.

In the photo above, we still didn't have our flooring installed, but we lived with the bathroom like this for several weeks.

I selected all champagne bronze fixtures by Delta. After researching online, I found that Amazon had the best prices and you can't beat the fast shipping.

Shopping Tip: On Amazon, look for "buy used" option - the item comes in excellent condition, but the box may have been opened before. I found great deals and everything is working great :) 

The bathroom faucet I selected was the Delta Linden Two Handle Centerset in champagne bronze. During our renovations, my dad hadn't started farming yet, so he was able to install the faucet for us. Yay! 

Here's a closer look of our vanity with the new knobs. We lucked out that the countertop was neutral and ended up working with my design concept. 

The last big project in this space was the shower. We wanted to keep the original cast iron bathtub and tile the rest. My husband and dad completed 90% of the renovations in our home, but for tiling the shower, we decided to outsource for the sake of time. My dad was only available a few weeks before he started farming and my husband was putting in major overtime working on the house in the evenings and on weekends. Tim Green (a local professional tile guy) came highly recommended to us and I'm so glad he was able to fit our shower project in so quickly before we moved in.

Within a few days, Tim worked on demo and had our tiled shower completed! Highly recommend him if you are local and reading this. 

We will never know why the previous owners covered up the mosaics... I thought they were pretty. 

Here's the shower today with the champagne bronze fixtures. We went with a basic white subway tile and a very light gray grout - Delorean Gray. 

The plumbing for the new fixtures also required some re-working so we used another local professional for this job - Ronnie Parks. He is the best and also highly recommended if you are local. 

Once the flooring was finished, we added some open shelving to complete the room. I'm loving this lavender soap from Pre de Provence! Shop here. Corbels were found on clearance at Hobby Lobby. 

I opted for a vintage chandelier vs. the new gold one in my original design board. As you'll see in the next photo, I updated the chandelier by adding new white chandelier socket covers. 

Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with how the bathroom came together! Lots of hard work, but our family of four all shares this space so I'm glad its finished and also fits our style.
